Where there is cell coverage.

Texting while backing isn't advised. ;-)

Yes Sir, hands free, steer with one hand & make threatening gestures to whom ever is guiding you with the other!

I'm an advocate of practice, practice, practice. Take the truck and trailer to a big parking lot and setup some pylons, cones, or even folding camp chairs and learn the trailer and truck.

When we get to a campsite I get out and look it over, plan my moves and then tell the DW exactly what I'm going to do and where my wheels will stop. She then stands where she can see the swing of the tail and my mirrors and keeps an eye out for stuff getting in the way like the kids at the next site.

It took me a while to teach her that if SHE couldn't see BOTH my mirrors the I couldn't see her...

All these theories will be tested once again this morning when I change sites.

I agree with Javi's statement above!

A good set of mirrors are your best friend. Practice using the mirrors only and avoid opening the door and sticking your neck out when backing!

Get your rig straight and put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel,
move your hand to the left and the rig will go left. Move your hand to the right and the rig will go right.

Keep your speed when backing to an idle or as slow as possible..too much speed when backing will make it easy to lose control of the trailer.

Always try to back in straight if possible if not always shoot for backing in from the drivers side...not always possible but a lot easier then the blindside.

Like Javi said use an empty parking lot on the weekend...use cones to practice and have some competent helpers. Always check for any overhead obstacles like tree branches, wires etc. especially with the tall 5th wheel trailers.
