Spec is 225/75R15 D....OK to go Maxxi 10 ply?

Maxxi doesnt specify if tire is D or E rated.

GVWR is 8200 on trailer.

Cold max pressure is 65 on placard on side of trailer....same as the Maxxi.

Chris,

Try this link to the Maxxis site. It's the load/specifications chart for their tires.

http://www.maxxis.com/catalog/tire-1...al-m8008#sizes

Routinely Load Ratings = Ply Ratings... LRC=6ply, LRD=8ply and LRE=10ply

Also, almost always (I say almost because there probably a little known tire "somewhere" that doesn't follow the rule), but almost always LRC/6PLY tires are inflated to 50PSI, LRD/8PLY to 65PSI and LRE/10PLY to 80PSI

Between the 225/75R/15 LRD and LRE, the overall diameter is the same, so you should have no fitment issues with your wheel wells, but you'd need to make sure your wheels are rated at 80 PSI if you intent to inflate them above the LRD pressure rating. I'd suggest running them at/near max PSI which is 80.

Try the spec chart with this information and maybe it'll make more sense to you.

Good Luck,

John,

Since my trailer should come with the same wheels that you have, are they rated for 80psi?

Thanks,
Steve

GmaPaTime,

Here are the specs on the wheels that we have on our trailer (assuming yours are the same aluminum 6 hole /5.5"/0 offset/6" wide wheels):

Specs:
•Rim dimensions: 15" diameter x 6" wide
•Bolt pattern: 6 on 5-1/2"
•Wheel bolt size: 1/2"-20
•Pilot diameter: 4.25"
•Load rating: 2,830 lbs at 80 psi

So, yes our wheels are rated at 80 PSI and also rated at the same 2830 lbs as the Maxxis 10 ply tires (at 80 PSI).

Here is a picture of the inside of our wheels. As you can see, there are two weight ratings stamped on the wheels... One is for the "casting" drilled as a 5 lug wheel and the other (ours) is the casting drilled as a 6 lug wheel...

Hope this answers your question,

You should be able to upgrade to LRE Maxxis with no problem. Make sure you run them at 80 psi, metal valve stems and have them balanced. You will be pleased with the upgrade.

Exactly!....I had stock 8ply Carlisle's on my 33' 2010 Keystone Springdale. They looked perfect?! But they ended up separating on the inside. The belts shifted and caused all kinds of drama while pulling to Flagstaff AZ?!-yikes!
Those things were junk!
I went with 10 ply's and keep 80# in them, and they ride so much better.

I see in the pic where it's stamped w/ load rating of 2830, but I don't see the max PSI rating for the wheel in the pic. Am I just not seeing it or can one presume that if it has that load rating then it must be able to handle 80PSI (since load range E trailer tires are normally around 2830lb max @ 80PSI)?

Will be pulling wheels off in next few days or so and ditching the Towmax ones. Looking at putting on Maxxis TL15713000 10 plys (ST225/75R15 10PR TL M8008 ST RADIAL). SimpleTire.com has them priced 4 for $541.82 after s/h (plus mounting/balancing & taxes) which seems like a good price.
