First time towing.....

We are towing our 2014 Keystone Alpine 3620FL with our new 2015 Ford F-350 Superduty shortbed for the first time. We have a Pullright Superglide 18K hitch. While towing, the truck feels like it's bouncing around a lot. We are new to towing...is this normal?

Bouncing can be caused by a few different things. Tongue/Pin weight, load distribution, suspension and road conditions.

Is it normal? Yes if the conditions are right- No if everything is right and working. Let me explain myself:

The HITCH will have no bearing on the bounce. If the road was built with expansion joints spaced "just so" and your wheel base and length from truck rear axle to trailer axle is "just so" then your in for a bouncy ride. If the pin wieght has the rear suspension riding just off the overloads, then hitting a bump in the road can cause the rear to bounce on/off the overloads. There are other conditions that can make it bounce, but that would take a LONG time and my fingers would get sore.

When you hitch up, how much does the rear drop? if there isn't much room from the frame and the overloads, I would suspect that's the issue. How to fix?

couple of different ways. Change the pin box to one with air suspension, add air bags to the rear of the truck. Pin box change will be the easiest, and may solve the issue. You can also alter the trailer axle suspension to help. At this point you need to eliminate the possibilities (road) to narrow down the source, and then formulate the proper fix.

Could the truck be a bit short on wheelbase for that 5'er?

I suspect that with that kind of pin weight you better hustle over to shop and gey you a set of airbags.. take a lot of that bounce out.

^^^I agree! Also would like to know if thats a dually or SRW, I assume the second based on description of the bounce. The shorter the wheelbase, the "less comfortable" the ride will be, specially when towing a long trailer.
BTW, that's a heck of a set up for a first time towing experience, congrats and enjoy!

I have a set of bags and run 70psi with a tongue weight of 1630 and about a 1000lbs in truck. It still has a small bounce over big bumps but over all is better than no bags

Are you getting bounce or the dolphin effect of front to back jostling over bridges, ect.

I have had 3 trucks and 2 different trailers in 15 years and cannot get rid of all of it ever.

Does it bounce or bounce differently when you are not towing. I find my 350 bounces around all the time towing or not as compared to the 150 I had. I feel it it because of the tires and suspension.

I have a Hensley TS3 TrailerSaver hitch with airbags on the truck and have no bounce at all. Can hardly tell it's back there to be honest.

I'm looking at the same fifth wheel. Curious if you weighed in on a truck scale before loading it up? If so, what did it come in at?
