Let's assume that's a 2500/3500 suburban with a duramax install. Tongue weight should be ok, but how do you back that up?

Talked one on one with the creator of this two years back. At that time he was getting approval in thee US and planed to go to canada as well for recognized use by the dot.
How it worked is they use an axel similar to that in a transfer truck, it works as an extension of your current rig extending the wheel base rating and stability. It also came with its own braking system and payload rating, which were crazy numbers like payload of 6000pds and the ability to stop 20000pds. The only pin weight on the main tv was that from the device, all the load from the trailer was carried by the device itself.
He showed me test video and reports where they took a chev 1500 reg cab, used the device and stopped on average 20feet sooner then the same style chev in the 3500 DRW model.

Same idea as a set of doubles using a converter dolly on the rear trailer. With the dolly axle attached, the semi-trailer becomes a full trailer and could be backed like a 4 wheeled farm wagon. You would turn the wheel the same direction you want the back of the trailer to go as opposed to the opposite direction with a semi-trailer. I wonder how the dolly unit is viewed as far as a driver's license is concerned? It seems it would be the same as towing doubles and would require the proper endorsement?

I saw a lifted F350 on my last trip with a 5th wheel attached to a hitch. He had some sort of adapter that attached to the camper and extended down 3 feet or so to his draw bar. I had hoped to stop by and ask a few questions but could never see him around.

I mentioned this before and can only speak for Oregon. The state law as it is currently read does not allow this type of combo. You can only pull one vehicle unless (comm. vehicle). Vehicle is definded as something that is attached to tow vehicle and pulled or pushed on a roadway. So, it becomes a vehicle under the law and as a vehicle it needs licensed and have a vin but, would not be able to attached to a trailer and tow vehicle and pulled on a roadway anyway. The law could be changed and maybe should be to allow this but, now it is not. so, Troopers and other traffic cops may cite this type of system. When cited for illegal combo vehicles etc. the cop may or may not allow the driver to continue until it is legal. My opinon is that the maker needs to get real state laws of each state, see if it is legal or not and go thru the process to allow this by new law or a exception. It's kind of new ground for current trailer law as used by non comm. vehicles. By the way, comm. vehicle combos up to 3 trailers are allowed in Oregon but, need air brakes and other stuff this would not have. Those converter dollies here pulled by comm. trucks need to be licensed due to their wt. they are licensed as a heavy trailer, can not make this stuff up. I had to list the plates on crash reports and refur to them as a dolly trailer vehicle # 4 or what ever.
