What have you done to your Alpine?

I thought this might be an interesting and thought provoking idea. Please make a list of things you have done (or are planning to do) to your Alpine in the way of mod or fixes no matter how small. You can never tell where your next DIY idea will come from.

I'll start (in no particular order)...

2 book shelves over headboard.

Replaced mattress with custom cut Tempurpedic.

Command hanger hooks at end of top cabinet in the bedroom by washer closet.

Built printer stand in closet.

Bought spare bulbs and fuses for every type I have.

Rubber door stopper on door handle of bathroom door from MBR where it hits the sink counter.

Bath towel hooks over shower walls.

Towel bar under cabinet over toilet for bathmat.

Toilet paper holder on wall next to toilet.

Put 2 plastic trays in medicine cabinet to improve storage.

Silicone sealed numerous leaks in shower enclosure.

Storage skirting around area under front of camper.

Installed a whole RV water filter which hangs under camper under the Convenience Center.

Correctly labeled all valves in Convenience Center.

Correctly labelled all light switches in the cabinet with the thermostat.

Put plastic tray in garbage enclosure to use for charging cell phones.

Ran 2nd coax connector through RV wall where stereo located (to allow for 2 lines to Dish DVR.)

Added wood shelves to pantry area to improve storage.

Added wood shelf to cabinet under TV (do not have fireplace) to improve storage.

Swapped couch and recliners for a more comfortable layout (IMO).

Added spacer washers to where drawer rails attached to wood frame. Drawers were coming off rails repeatedly.

Added a screw to top and to bottom of panel under sink island. Was warping.

Cut plexiglass inserts for screen door as storm windows. Hold in w/ white elec tape.

Installed MaxxAir II covers over the bathroom and kitchen vents.

Found 3 dripping water connections that needed to be tightened.

Will install clear vinyl carpet runner on steps. Wearing out way too fast.

Will install slide toppers on all slides.

For our 3640RL

Dave -

You know I can't resist a thread such as this. I've done some of the same "improvements" you have (especially towel and toilet paper hangers), but also:

Added a stack of chrome wire shelving instead of W/D in closet. Wireless printer attached to the top wire shelf.

Added chrome wire shelving under the sink with a basket and sliding shelf in the back part behind the plumbing. (Pictures soon on the Modifications Section.)

Installed a forced air circulation system to keep warmer air moving in the lower tank sub-basement. (See post in Modifications Section) Will soon add a circulation fan to move warmed air from kitchen area to the upper utility basement area through stair louvers.

Replace bedroom door with nice folding door. The bedroom door opened into the lavatory area and would collide with the shower door when opened. Had to replace/refurbish the whole door jamb area when removed the stock door and frame.

Added Maxx-Air vent covers over the bathroom and kitchen vents.

Purchased an extra "sewer hose scabbard" from CW, sealed one end with silicon caulk so only one end opens. Use "L" hooks to mount this scabbard on the inside wall at the back of the generator compartment. Uses short bungee cords to hold scabbard against wall and secure.

Added two layers R-5 pink foam insulation to the ceiling of the Storage Basement between the aluminum "rafters".

Removed the "wall" of the Storage Basement. Cut R-5 pink foam insulation as a press fit between the aluminum frame members. Cut one sheet of foam insulation so that it has to be "flexed" to fit behind the diagonal wall behind the WaterWorks area. Sealed above the wall and WaterWorks with rubber pipe insulation pressed into place.

Got a 2'x4' perforated White Hardboard sheet to place flat at the top of the stairs to keep the Chihuahuas from escaping beneath the sliding door when corraled in the bedroom/bath area to give us some peace when dining!

Detached three 2' sections of 24" pet fence to put inside the door to keep wild Chihuahuas away from the door when entering with arms full. Fold fence and place in bottom of "cabinet" next to front door. (Darned ankle biters!)

More as it gets added . . .

Lightbulb Improvements to my 3500 RE

Dave and Ron,

Looks like you both have been busy. Some very good ideas there. Here is a my list of improvements that I have completed on our Alpine 3500 RE.

*Added two extra wood shelves to the pantry cabinet, one to the island pantry cabinet, and one shelf to the bathroom vanity cabinet.
*Replaced the bathroom faucet with one that is higher and longer and places the water in the center of the sink bowl. This really helped with the usability of the very small sink that is placed too far back from the front of the cabinet.
*Added towel holders and other accessories to the bathroom.
*Added clear plastic corner trim to the edges of the chipboard mattress base. The rough edge would catch the fabric of the comforter and pull out threads in addition to being rough on your hands when tucking in the sheets. We also added some clear contact paper over the edge of the trim and on to the board to smooth everything out.
*Added a handle to the round end cabinet door below the island. Really helps to open the door. (Why didn't Keystone do that???)I also added a hold open spring to keep it open when you are working in the kitchen and want to throw things out with touching the door handle (My wife's idea). Added bungee to hold the garbage can in place.
*Removed one door latch from each of the tall pantry cabinet doors and moved the other latch to the center shelf closest to the door pull. This was to make opening the doors easier and prevent the bending of the doors until the latches released. (Prevents the sproningggg as mentioned in another post)
*Relocated the latch on the “command center” door to the lower portion behind the pull. Again this prevents bending the door when trying to open it.
*Added rubber floor mats to the front basement storage area.
*Added trim molding around the edge of the under island access panel.
*Added door stoppers to the bathroom and bedroom doors.
*Cleaned, sanded, and painted rusted areas on frame and spare tire rim.
*Painted stop line on landing gear to prevent blowing fuse if fully retracted.
*Changed A/C vent in bathroom to one that can be closed off.
*Sealed gaps in A/C return air ducts with metal A/C tap.
*Labeled all the light switches to identify them.
*Moved dining room table to allow better access between forward wall and chairs.
*Added additional clamps and flex wire ties to wiring running through the basement.

Hope you both enjoy your new Alpine. Keep me posted on any other improvements you do.

Tom

Some GREAT and inspiring ideas here. Thanks all.

By the far the best for us was moving the dining table nine inches to the rear and a few inches out from the wall. (We also removed one of the recliners.) Now we can actually use the thing, with leg and elbow room, as opposed to it just being the dumping ground for keys, shopping, loose change etc as it had been before.

Something else that works great for us is keeping the bedroom door permanently closed. This allows us to have a clothes hamper in the bedroom and we've hung a coat rack over the front of the door in the hallway. You can't even see it with the bathroom door open, as it usually is, so it looks like a closet.

This weekend we're going to add a handle to that ridiculous curved cupboard in the kitchen. We don't have the trash can in there. It was too small and too inconvenient. We bought a nice tall, slimline stainless steel one and keep it under that curved overhang on the breakfast bar. Looks stylish and fits right in.

Forgot that one. I put a round knob handle on the trash can curved cabinet. We have a 13 gal white trash can under there. Put some velcro on the bottom of the can and the bottom of the cupboard to prevent the can from turning sideways and therefore preventing the cabinet from closing.

BTW, got my slide toppers. They are under the trailer right now and the first one goes on tomorrow.

Dave, where did you attach the knob? To the thin curved wood, or the frame?

DocData757 replied:
To the curved wood. It has held up fine.
