Fires breaking out

Record heat and no rain. Louisiana has huge forest fires in Vernon Parish, which is far western Louisiana. Texas has forest fires in Jasper and Shelby counties in east Texas.
This morning the Walls Unit of the Texas prison system in Huntsville had a fire. No reports of injuries.
We could use some rain.

Had a couple large wildfires in the county in the last week or two. Over 400 acres burned.

I don’t know how many acres have burned in Louisiana, I’d guess thousands. A whole lot of 2x4’s.
We are hoping Texas doesn’t get anymore fires. We have 30,000 pine trees pretty close to first thinning

Here is a cool app to keep track of wildfires, it's called "Watch Duty".

Has versions for Android and Apple.

Stay safe out there!

DW Betty tells me forest fire fighters from South Carolina are on their way.
Texas sent 90 fire fighters, EMT’s, and support equipment.
30,000 acre fire called Tiger Island Fire.
Fox Weather has a good article.

For wildfires in Texas, forestry service has a map that shows active and those recently put out: https://public.tfswildfires.com/ Zoom in on the map a bit and if you hold a cursor over a dot it will tell you if active/out and how many acres burned.

500 acre forest fire on Jasper and Orange County Texas line. 40% contained. Air tankers are scooping water from Steinhagen Reservoir. Maybe 4 miles from DW Betty’s farm. Fingers crossed.

Weather forecast for our area indicates a chance of rain this week almost every day. 20-30 percent in some cases and hope we do actually get some.

I think our rain chances ramp up from 20% Wednesday to 40% Thursday/Friday. I’m planting food plots on the hunting club tomorrow. Hoping for some rain.
I believe we dodged a bullet on the forest fire. I need to check on the latest reports from Beaumont media. Last I heard folk that were evacuated were allowed back.
