Screen Room advice?

My wife keeps bringing this up, and I keep hoping she'll stop!. Looks like I am going to lose this battle. I've looked at some, but it just seems like it will be a PIA to add to the setup/breakdown and kind of take the fun out of it. We have a lot of one nighters or two nighters, so that adds to the equation as well. What are your thoughts and experience? Is there another option? Maybe a screen inside the door or something? Any brands better than others? Just not really liking this idea. Thanks.

We had one for 10 years with our popup. We used it only on 1 week stays. It was nice to be bug free outside the popup since we always ate and spent all of our time at the picnic table inside the screen room. It took at least both of us 15 min. to setup and take down. Once we got a bigger trailer, it wasn't necessary.

I'm wondering if just getting some rolls of screen, cutting them to size, then just clipping them to the awning, might be enough to reduce the bugs? Maybe put some cintronella candles or something inside the screened are to chase them away. Florida summers are full of flying bugs and they seem to find their way inside pretty easy! I just don't know if it is going to be worth it.

Years back we had a screen room as well with the popup but only put it up for weeks, it would Velcro on.

Currently we have a First up 10x10 canopy, we only set it up if we stay 3 nights or more if we feel we need it. We have wind walls that are easy to put up and we use those if it is going to rain. They also have screen walls that we could get if we wanted to. Having an electric awning, I would not attach a screen room to it in case I needed to close it.

We use a Coleman screened canopy that is 12'x10' that is fairly easy to popup with by the two of us. Plenty of room for chairs or will even fit a picnic table in it. The model number is 2000004413 and Amazon has it for $133.

This is what we are hoping to get this spring when they start to sell them. At the State Fair last fall we played with the prototypes Clam had, and loved how fast they are to set up and take down. We have a 10'x10' canopy from horse show days, but it's so heavy and takes 2 people to put up, where with this I can do it myself.

We have a 13 x 15 Instant Screened Canopy by Coleman. Takes literally two minutes to put up (maybe 5 if just one of us is doing it). High quality, fairly light (40 lbs. with nice sturdy carry bag), and we love it. No assembly of poles - poles are pre-attached - just extend them. Large table and many chairs will fit inside.

I have an EZ-up shelter with the screen panels, only put them up if the bugs are super bad or we are going to be camping for more than a couple of nights. I had a screen room on my popup too, same general rules. I have also had some off brand screen house that we used to use over the picnic table. No clue what brand, just seem to remember it only lasted a couple of years.

I am looking more for something to keep bugs from coming in the TT when going in/out. Seems like the bugs are hanging out just waiting to get in! Maybe turning lights off would help?

We do not have a big issue with bugs getting in but yes, if you leave the inside lights off it should help. Outside light is yellow so that should help. Keep any other outside lights away from the door.

This is the one that a neighbor had, that seemed real easy to set up and take down - may get one for next season ....

Looks similar to the Coleman unit described above ...http://www.amazon.com/Gazelle-6-Side.../dp/B00LB3EVMS

Attached screen rooms are great. When we had our Rpod, there was a screen room that slid into a channel at the door-side of the camper all the way across the front. It also added 8 x 16 feet to the living area. It's something we really miss, although it was an ordeal putting it up and taking it down. They're very expensive.

I also wanted a screen room. I found this one at a dealer who took it back as a return. The person who purchased it only used it once and then returned it. It was in brand new condition. Picked it up for about 200.00
It is fairly easy and quick to set up. I think I have set up and breakdown at about 20 mins each. I will probably only use it on longer trips, not the 2 or 3 day trips. It makes a great outdoor screen room. I also got an outdoor rug that is the same dimension as the awning. The dogs love it too!

Greg, that is totally awesome! Another thing that I was wondering about is how it would work with my powered awning, but looks like you have the powered awning too, so guess it isn't an issue. Does it take up a lot of space when it is broken down?

It works with my power awning, it is very light. The awning is actually more secure with light winds and can still tilt/dump in the rain.

It all fits in a mid to large sized duffle bag that is included. I keep it under my dinette bench seat. I would guess the dimensions of the bag are approx 12x12x18". It is about 35-40 lbs.

Hope this helps!

The attached screen rooms are really nice - especially if you can pick one up for $200 - but their placement is obviously somewhat limited. For instance, the last site we had in Florida had a nice palm tree that gave us some nice shade, but was positioned on the site so we could only extend our awning less than half way, but there was plenty of room on either side for a 10x10 portable room.
