Pictures of what I have done so far to the Mountaineer. Now I just need to figure how to finish it off.

You're well on your way to having it look like a factory install. I'm jealous! How are you planning to wire it in?

It's a three prong plug so I am going to run the cord up behind the TV and plug it in there. I'll add that picture later so you can see how I did it.

Looks good, nice job on securing the fire place.
For finishing; if you still are trying to come up with ideas. One is too use solid surfacing. Find a cabinet shop that specialize in solid surfacing. This can be made to fit the fire place and look like stone or a marble surface.
Friends of ours is using the solid surfacing for a shower surround in their bathroom.
Another thought is to build out the opening and have a mantle with supports for the mantle covering the opening.
Good Luck.

Got it from here:
http://www.qsnelectricfireplaces.com...ox-insert.aspx

If you look at my picture you can tell it's not the same as the one on the web site it's square and not tapered and doesn't have the mesh curtains like their picture, But it works, it fits and I diden't spend a grand from the dealer.

How well would something like that heat the camper? I have kicked around the idea of installing one.

Thumbs up fireplace

we think we can we think we can.....................
but after warrenty is gone!

one question... sometimes I try to use a space heater and blow the circut ..... if the coffee pot is on. Will the circut hold??? or did you make changes there??

Love what you did.......... it's one thing I wish we had ... we have a very shallow cabinet not sure it would work but I may measure for a project in the future.

Electric fireplace

I installed one of those electric fireplace inserts into the fireplace at house...I got the insert at Home Depot ....It just slide right into place it is remote control. I cannot remember if it was 199 or 299 but it heats our living room with a cathedral ceiling . At first I was not wanting one in an rv but after staying in a motor home over Thanksgiving that had the heat pump freeze up I can see the advantage......especially when it was 47 degrees inside the camper.....

Grumpsy, nice job on fireplace. Question? Were you able to just plug it in an existing outlet as you said you may be doing in your post and if so is this working out ok? My kids bought me one for Christmas That I want to install in my 327RES. I have a 50 amp service and there are outlets inside the two cabinets that are on the right and left side of the center cabinet that is under the tv which is where I want to put in the fireplace insert. Do you think that I too can just plug it in? The unit is 1250 watts.

You cant see in the finished picture But I drilled two holes, one between the cabinet where I mounted the fireplace, and the shelf for the cable box and one between that shelf and where the TV is mounted. I added a small three plugin surge protector and have it plugged in where the TV is and have not had any problems. The fire place works great on a chilly morning when you dont want to turn the heat up.

Thanks looking closer at your picture I think that's the same unit my children bought me. The classic flame led 27" wide one. My fifth wheel is in winter storage so i will be anxious for spring to tackle this project. Yours looks factory. On your pic there are two black boxes above the unit, are those air intakes? My unit draws air from the top so I thought I may need to add some type of intake.

Yes they are intakes/vents I used a plastic leaf gutter cover, painted it black and stapled it to the back side of the wood. Make sure you post some pictures when your done.
