How do others handle?

Seriously considering upgrading from 32'TT that can fit in driveway as needed for loading and maintenance with maybe 3 feet to spare. 5er is 41 feet long. We would like to go ahead but how do others handle this? Sounds stupid but how to wash? Ladder in the street seems dangerous. Can't leave it in the street per borough rules.

Hi, Chris & Patty, we store ours in a storage lot about 6 miles from our house. When we are going away we bring it over for a couple of days to load, wash, and maintenance. And yes, the ladder in the street to wash the high parts and a telescoping brush. We also have an ordinance of 24-48 hrs on the street, but we have had it here for about 5 days. As long as the neighbors don't call and complain we are good.

We went from a 40' 5th wheel to a 36' Fuzion and love it. Double axles are a lot easier to tow than 3 and with a 10' garage we only lost 2' in the living area. It will tow very well behind your SRW 3500.

I would not upgrade to a trailer that would not fit in my yard. I want to see it and the time it would take to go back and forth and pack it if it was not in the yard would not be worth it. Never mind the fact that I would have to empty the fridge after every trip, no thank you. If you are hooked at doing the upgrade, make sure you have a storage place so you can park it once you get it.

OR, you could just move to a better S&B!

We have limits to how large we can go as far as parking in the driveway. We love having our trailer at home. For a long time we owned a larger camper that we had to store 3 miles away. It was a real pain (and expensive).

I have a hard time understanding how inflexible some people are.
We moved to a smaller place, and could no longer bring it home for maintenance or loading.
We pack after a trip, takes a couple days to get propane filled, laundry done, fiver cleaned, non-perishable food restocked.
I have repacked the bearings and installed shocks in the yard no issues. If you have the attitude you can't do it anywhere but home, likely you can't. I don't see an issue, biggest win is that we don't need to deal with the dogs going nuts for a day or two before we leave.
The only warning they get is when I bring the food tote up for the DW to load the perishables from the S&B refer, and I bring their bed down from the bedroom!!
Storage yard is about two miles from home, and eight miles from work. We have been on the road with in 90 minutes of me leaving work. That included installing the hitch and airing up the TV tires.

Can totally relate to the dog thing. We have to sneak to pack our camper so that our dog doesn't have a heart attack waiting for us to load her.

Yes the dog gets excited but she does not go on every trip so she just has to live with it.

Maybe many do not have an issue with parking at a lot some place and can get things ready quickly and that is great for them. I like to back into the yard, plug in the trailer and bring the laundry inside. Clean everything and bring it back out. Shop Thurs night and put the food in the trailer and the fridge and then hook up and go on Friday. Why do I want to empty the freezer and fridge every week and reload it once it cools done if I do not have too.

Also, having the trailer in the yard, it is a great little store if you run out of something in the house, you just run outside to get it until we shop Thurs. Works great for us. Also, hear too many stories or stolen propane and batteries etc. To each there own.

We were seasonal for 11 years and we thought that was easy but now we feel that having our trailer in the yard is easier as we do not pack a cooler or pack the car as everything is in the trailer ready to go.

Thanks. I don't think I'd have figured that out by myself.

We just put ours into an indoor storage facility, love it! Yes it is expensive, but it's out of the weather, they have a dump station, and water hookup. I keep my gas powered pressure washer, bucket, soap, long handled brush....you get the idea, in the storage unit. When we come back, unload then take it over to clean up and put away. BTW, standing on the tailgate works great for washing the front cap, just be careful that you don't step off the edge.

One other thing, I start the fridge the night before to get it cold. It doesn't take that much propane and we camp with full hookups so it's on electric the rest of the time.

RV parking at ones residence can be difficult or non existent depending on where you live. When I had my 36' Jayco, I rented for a few years and the house I lived in had zero lot lines, meaning the eaves of the house were on the property line.

I got extremely lucky when I bought my current house in 2000. It's on a corner and one of my demands was back/side yard access to park my rig behind a fence. I was able to park my crew cab long bed and trailer behind the fence NOT HOOKED UP. Now that my trailer is only 30' long I can actually walk in front of my truck.

I added a 10' wide driveway from curb to fence last year, after I got stuck on wet grass

I actually have a 11'x60' space along the side of my house, but the NM sun beating on the camper wasn't ideal. In a couple months I'm expanding my garage anyway, my truck will actually fit inside the new addition. I'm also adding AC, maintenance in comfort

We live on a dead-end street in a small town. When we first got the Montana, I could turn the rig around on an undeveloped area of several acres at the end of the street. However, the owner of the land apparently did not appreciate it and he has fenced it off and placed large rocks so that nothing larger than a medium sized car/pickup can turn around there. Now, even the trash trucks cannot turn around; they pick up on one side of the street, back out, turn around and back in to pick up the other side. When they get ready to develop the property, the city will require the owner to put in a turnaround so at least the fire trucks can access the area. I am guessing the first time we have a fire down here and the fire truck has to back nearly a mile to get out, the situation will change.
We have a storage lot two miles away. When we get ready to leave, all our clothes, food, bicycles, dogs, etc are loaded in the truck and we load the trailer, hook-up and go. Our first night stop is generally within a few hours and we may spend a few days there getting everything organized.
Yes, it is a hassle not being able to get to the house with the fiver, but the alternative is either not going at all or fighting with a neighbor. Anyway, eventually it will work out and in the meantime, we are having a ball.

Sold my old place on an acre with an rv shade, 16' gate in a rural community all 1 acre lots. The 1st thing on the list for a new place was an rv gate & room in the back yard. Couldn't/wouldn't live any other way.
